Fostering Centre Commission

I was awarded a grant to construct 3 mosaic panels to brighten up a flint wall in the gardens of the Fostering Centre. Due to protocols I was not able to meet the children but commissioned them to draw "Happy Smiling Faces". I drew ovals or circles as templates and provided a goody bag of crayons, stickers, sequins and balloons to encourage them to have a go.

I then cut out the finished faces and glued them to marine plywood integrating them in to my framework design, and mosaiced over the top in order to keep the spirit of the originals in tact.

Many had drawn their foster mums and when one foster mum identified her portrait in the finished mosaic she burst in to happy tears.

I later took part in a team building day for the staff and we mosaiced the common room table, and a fun day for foster children during the summer break.
